News – Ulster County Seeking Elections Inspectors

From the Ulster County Board of Elections

The Ulster County Board of Elections is seeking elections inspectors. There will be an election Tuesday, August 23rd and Tuesday, November 8th this year. Training is mandatory before working either of these elections.

On election days our inspectors work from 5:15am until about 9:30pm. While we’re not able to leave the poll site during that time, each poll site has a restroom, and breaks can be taken during slower times throughout the day. Please bring all food and beverages you may need for the day, as well as a book or something to do in case it is not busy. The rate of pay is $15 per hour and $60 for completing the online training and attending a workshop session.

There are three positions under the umbrella term of Election Inspector. The first is Ballot Master. The Ballot Master is responsible for signing in voters on the PollPad and distributing ballots. The second position is Key Master and they are responsible for opening and closing the voting systems, assisting voters if they need help, and returning the ballot privacy folders and pens to the Ballot Masters. The third is Chair Master and they are responsible for issuing Affidavit ballots. All of our inspectors work representing either the Democratic or Republican parties and work in pairs. We do also try to train about 60 alternate inspectors for each election because things come up unexpectedly, and sometimes at the last minute.

We would greatly appreciate spreading the word that we are currently hiring new Election Inspectors. We have many seats to fill in these upcoming Elections. Please have anyone you know that is interested contact us, or call us with their name and we will be happy to reach out to them.

Thank you,

Nicole Tinker, Inspector Coordinator
