MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
February 26, 2015
The meeting started at 9:35 am.
Present: Sandy Chipman, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking (acting as Chair), Recreation/Youth Department Assistant Director Rita Harkins and Town Board liaison Cindy Fornino.
Absent: Jessica Knapp, Sue Matson.
After establishing that there is a quorum for the meeting, the minutes of the January 22, 2015 meeting were reviewed. Sandy Chipman made a motion to approve the minutes and Manuela Michailescu seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
The Director’s and the liaison’s report were focused on presenting photo/information regarding the new BUS the town plans to get:
— waiting for final approval (as other quotes are needed – Rich Miller to help getting them)
— it’s a 2003 bus (from Johnstown, NW of Albany), for 78 people, in excellent shape, at 100,000 miles
— it has air conditioning (but not bathrooms)
— price around $6,900
— for longer trips (more than 70-75 miles from our town) we’d get a charter bus (with bathroom), so that the town is not responsible in case something happens
Other issues from the Director’s report:
— Summer Program registrations started – people are asked to pay as down-payment $25/week (from the $100/week fee) to hold the spot; deposit it’s not refundable (unless somebody else is found to replace the kid for those specific weeks).
— the program’s schedule is as in previous years, Mondays and Fridays at the Youth/Recreation Center, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for trips, Thursdays for Ellenville Library and pool.
— the Yard Sale to benefit the summer program is going to be during the week of June 8 – 12 (donations accepted as of June 1).
— the quarterly Newsletter is going to be ready and distributed in few days
— the February 28 sleepover was cancelled (because of lack of participants)
— MARCH Events:
• March 11th – St. Patrick’s Day luncheon, 11:30 am – 1 pm; discussion regarding the need for reservations, no self-service (and eventually “no take outs” signs) took place
• Tricia Reed’s next fundraising event (to raise money for more playground equipment for the Youth Center) is on March 20 at Skate Time.
• Drug and bullying prevention program (“Too Good for Drugs”, with Rich Miller and Susan from Ulster County) – no update
— APRIL Events:
• April 4 – Easter Egg Hunt
• April 18 and 25 – Earth Day
The meeting adjourned around 10:30 am.
Next meeting: March 26, 2015, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
