Recreation Commission Minutes – November 2021

Recreation Commission Meeting
Call to Order: 10:00am
Present: Jessica Knapp-Chair, Pam Stocking-Vice Chair, Manuela Michailescu, Deborah Martin, Tina Bergen-Russell, Ashley Sweeney-Recreation Director, Bethany Dennin-Assistant Recreation Director.
Approval of Minutes: Deborah Martin makes a motion, Pam Stocking seconds.
Verbal Director’s Report: Ashley Sweeney
• I am happy to announce that the Town of Rochester Basketball Program is happening again this year! There are three different registration dates available; November 16th, November 22nd& November 29th from 5pm-7pm at Kerhonkson Elementary School.
• Awards-Emma Post has been nominated for the Sue Matson Distinguished Youth Award, Patrick Davis for the Mary Lee Friend of Youth Award.
Deborah Martin makes a motion to approve nominees, seconded by Pam Stocking.
Ashley will also contact the Rondout Valley School District to see if they can suggest another nominee for the Sue Matson Distinguished Youth Award because no one received it in 2020.
• Holiday dates-Pending approval from Supervisor Mike Baden, we are aiming to have a “Youth Holiday Party” at the Harold Lipton Community Center on Friday, December 10th from 5pm-7pm. We would also like to have a “To-Go Pancake Breakfast” for Seniors on Friday, December 17th from 9:30am-11:30am.
Group Discussion:
• Deborah Martin-interested in doing a virtual demo (workshop) at the Community for parents who have children with learning disabilities.
• Tina would like to incorporate other holidays into our holiday events in the future or possibly create new events. She would also like to possibly host a “Pet Parade” in town for local youth and seniors. Ashley will mention this to Supervisor Mike Baden and see what he thinks. There could be some concern about liability.
