Recreation Commission Minutes – March 2024

MINUTES
SENIOR & YOUTH RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
March 27, 2024

Present: Deborah Martin — Chair, Pam Stocking — Vice Chair, Marjorie Bogert, Jessica Knapp, Manuela Michailescu, Recreation Dept. Assistant Director Bethany Dennin.
Melissa Guimaraes, who applied to join the Commission, also attended.

The meeting started at 9:45 am.
Chair Deb Martin presented the Agenda of the meeting and called the meeting to order after establishing that we have a quorum, with all 5 current members of the Commission present (Sandy Chipman and Cynthia Lampman resigned).

The Minutes of the September 2023 meeting were reviewed and amended — Pam Stocking made a motion to approve them, Jessica Knapp seconded and they were unanimously approved as amended.

The Minutes of the October, November 2023 meetings and Notes of the December 2023 meeting, and minutes of the February 2024 minutes to be approved next month, together with the current March 2024 minutes.

Bethany Dennin presented the DIRECTOR’S REPORT; among the highlights:

• Adult Painting Classes — held on March 8th, 2024, well attended. Another “Birches Paint Class” would be offered in April, back by popular demand.

• St. Patrick’s Day luncheon — held on Friday, March 15th, 11:00 am—1:00 pm; 170 people were served. Very well organized, attended and successful.
Thanks to Deborah Martin and David Cobb for singing Irish music.

• NARCAN Training Class— held at the Community Center, on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, taught by Ellenville Regional Hospital.

• Easter Bunny Photos — taken on March 25th and March 27th, at the Community Center. SYR Commission members took a photo with the Easter Bunny too (all agreed it can be posted on the Recreation Department’s Facebook page).

NEW BUSINESS — UPCOMING EVENTS (from the Director’s Report)

• Easter Egg Hunt — will take place on Saturday, March 30th. The hunt will begin at 12 noon SHARP in the Town’s Park.
Deb Martin would be the Bunny again — to arrive around 10:30 am at the Community Center.
Those willing to help hide Easter Eggs and get set up — to come at 9 am that morning.

• Earth Day — will be on April 13th and April 20th. Bags to be distributed as of next week.
On April 20th at 2 pm, as in recent years — a “pizza party” for volunteers, organized by ECC, with pizza baked in the outside oven by County Legislator (and former Rochester Councilman) Chris Hewitt.
• Summer program reservations — begin on April 8
• Casino trip — April 26
• Spring Fling — May 10, 11 am — 1 pm.

CHAIR’S REPORT

— MEMBERSHIP
Sandy Chipman and Cynthia Lampman resigned with the Town Clerk.
Melissa applied to the Town Supervisor to become a member of SYRC and is waiting to be called for an interview.

— MINUTES, ROBERT’S RULES
A lengthy discussion about Robert’s Rules took place and was tabled for next month.

Meeting continued with hands-on help counting plastic eggs (for each age category) for the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday.

The meeting adjourned at 10:35 am.
Pam Stocking made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Marjorie Bogert and approved unanimously.

Next meeting takes place on April 24th, 2024, 9:30 am, at the Community Center (date changed from April 17th because of a conflict at the Community Center).
