Recreation Commission Minutes
Call to Order: Pam Stocking 9:45am
Present: Pam Stocking-Vice Chair, Jessica Knapp-Chair, Manuela Michailescu, Deborah Martin, Ashley Sweeney-Recreation Director.
Approval of Minutes: Pam Stocking made a motion, Deborah Martin seconded.
Verbal Director’s Report: Ashley Sweeney
• Summer Program-First session is almost complete. We had a lot of fun. The rain this month made everything a little more challenging, but we made it work. Session two will begin August 2nd. We are looking forward to meeting all the new kids. They will not be repeated from first session.
• Community Trip-We are in the process of planning a community trip on the evening of August 26th to the Dutchess County Fair. I am working on getting a quote from First Student for transportation.
• Accord Speedway-Tomorrow is Kids Go Free/Autograph Night at the Speedway. Gary Palmer has given us admission tickets to give out to kids so they can go for free. I have some if anyone is interested in handing a few out. They will also be distributed to all of the kids in Summer Program.
• Exercise Classes- Currently a huge success. Every week they are full. We may be starting a Tai Chi class in the Fall through Ulster County Office for the Aging. We were supposed to start this before Covid, but they canceled it so we’re trying to start it up again.
• Heritage Day-Deborah and Debbie Martin having already started working on the Quilt Show.
Deb Martin gave brief summary of their ides for the show.
They will need tarp clips and command hooks. She will bring a sounds system.
Robin Beveridge will attend she is an experienced weaver and spinner.
Manuela suggested that Ashley contact Lolly Chase about participating.
• After School Program-We’re not sure if it will happen this year, but the Recreation Department really hopes that it does. I will speak to Mike Baden about it.
Deborah Martin asked if it’s possible to get an air filtration system for the Community Center? Ashley will mention this to Mike Baden and see if we can make this happen.
