Youth Commission Minutes Mar. 2014

MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
March 27, 2014

The meeting started at 9:45 am.
Present: Sandy Chipman, Jessica Knapp, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking and Recreation/Youth Department Director Carol Dennin.

Absent: Susan Matson (who called to say she is out of town and thank the Youth Commission for naming the Distinguished Youth Award after her).

As the Town Board passed at their March 6 meeting – attended by Vice Chair Pam Stocking and Secretary Manuela Michailescu – the resolution to reduce the minimum number of Youth Commission members from 6 to 5 members, from now on the quorum requirement is having 3 members present.

After establishing that there is a quorum for the meeting, the minutes of the February 20, 2014 meeting were reviewed by all. Pam Stocking made a motion to approve them and Sandy Chipman seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Director Carol Dennin explained that both her assistants are sick and then presented her report:

— St. Patrick’s luncheon on Friday, March 14 was extremely well attended – while only 68 made reservations, over 85 people came for the luncheon

— over 140 youth are now registered for the Basketball program

— Easter Egg Hunt is on April 18, starting at 12; Jessica to pick up the Bunny

— April 19 and 26 is Earth Day – people to list themselves and get special orange bags from Carol; pizza party is on April 26

— Mystery Murder Dinner Cafe show – on April 25; about 33 people got tickets at that time ($30 per person; only 70 tickets are available); help is needed (the next YC meeting being on April 24, members would help cooking and preparing for the dinner presentation)

— New town website – each department/commission is in charge of their own postings and updates; Carol had problems getting on the new website with her computer (Manuela to email her how to get there)

— problems with opening doors at the Recreation Center – let Town Board liaison Tavi Cilenti know about this

— Summer Program – schedule is ready and was presented to Commission members; program runs from July 7 to Aug. 22; cost is $100/week; the 2 half-days are on Mondays and Fridays; Rich Miller is working on getting the bus.

Last point on the agenda was the Youth Awards applications – Jessica to update the forms.

The meeting adjourned around 10:45 am.

Next meeting: Thursday, April 24, 2014, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
