Minutes

September 17, 2018 at 2:00pm

Members Present – Alice Schoonmaker, Franz Dannecker, Elaine Laflamme.

Absent – Alice Cross, Lindsey Arnold, Jens Verhaugh, Town Board Liaison Brian Drabkin

Call to Order – E. Laflamme called the meeting to order at 2:20pm.

Minutes – June 18, 2018 and July 16, 2018 Minutes were circulated prior to the meeting. F. Dannecker noted a misspelling in his name. As corrected, F. Dannecker moved to accept the June and July Minutes. A. Schoonmaker seconded the motion. All in favor. None opposed.

Prospective and New Members – Jens Verhaugh was sworn in at a recent Town Board meeting. F. Dannecker discussed two potential candidates. He would check with them to see if they were interested in coming to a meeting. E. Laflamme mentioned one person she had reached out to that might be interested.

Update on Accord Study – Neil Larson will have an update for the group by October.

Communication from Code Enforcer’s Office – E. Laflamme recounted email to Alice Cross about changes to the Accord Train Station. The Code Enforcer’s Office did not get in touch with HPC as required to and have done in the past. The actual work in progress was the first HPC had known about it.

The Code Enforcer’s office had suggested to the architect that he reach out to HPC because of the historic significance of the building. Alice Cross had not heard from the architect as of the date of the email.

Update on the Friends of Historic Rochester Annual Meeting – A. Schoonmaker reported that the annual meeting was well attended with 35 people in the audience. The Ellenville Journal and the Bluestone Press covered the presentation by local historian Gail Whistance, entitled Connections: The Honk Falls to Kingston Power Line. There were artifacts from the power line on display during the presentation. Friends’ next event is scheduled for October 6th, Heritage Day and its next meeting is scheduled for November.

Deep Hole – E. Laflamme noted that HPC’s mandate to identify historical assets extended to historical sites and landscapes and suggested that HPC may want to consider identifying such assets, using Deep Hole as an example. Deep Hole has been used as a swimming hole by residents and visitors for the past century. There was little enthusiasm for the idea.

Other – A. Schoonmaker asked what is happening with Anderson’s Feed Mill? She recalled a time when there were tours of the buildings. This is a place to put some thought into; get the right architect to suggest best uses. A. Schoonmaker is happy to reach out to the owner of the feed mill and agreed to contact Fred Wustrau to arrange for same.

Action- Alice Schoonmaker moved to adjourn the meeting at 3:05pm. Franz Dannecker seconded it and passed by all.

Respectfully submitted, Elaine M. Laflamme, acting as Recording Secretary
