ECC Minutes July 2012

Rochester ECC Meeting July 12, 2012; 7:00 P.M.

 

  • Attending: Laura Finestone, Chair., Joe Britt: Facilitator, Hank Bartosik,: Recorder,  members John Messerschmidt, Ryan Tripani. Guests Shelley Tran and Toby Stover.
  • Minutes of June 14th accepted.
  • Toby Stover presented a report regarding the dangers of fracking in the Marcellus and Utica Shale deposits that underlie the Town of Rochester.
  • A discussion ensued regarding enacting a ban and Home Rule.
  • Shelly Tran requested that the ECC watch  “The Sky is Pink”  The web site will be made available to anyone interested.
  • At 7: 18 Carl Chipman joined the Commission meeting and spoke briefly about fracking issue and the inclusion of “Petroleum” in the ultimate resolution before the Town Board.  Mention was also made about property owner rights.
  • Laura appealed to the Commission to put together a position on the fracking issue that would assist the Town Board in its decision making regarding the fracking issue.
  • Ryan suggested that a position from the ECC should be unbiased.
  • Carl Chipman asked us to decide and include any dissenting positions positive and negative
  • Hank contributed evidence of problems associated with mining for gas in Holland, Switzerland and Bavaria, Germany.
  • Laura awaits info from Toby which she will synthesize for the Rochester Town Board for their decision making.
  • Creek Week is Scheduled for Sept 15th -23rd.
  • Laura requested ideas and suggestions:
1. Repeating the creek cleanup such as last year’s clean up with canoes and kayaks.
2. Critter hunt with nature walks.
3. Joe Britt suggested his project for the Cornell U. Watershed Steward Program of monitoring creek condition with cameras.
