ECC Minutes Feb. 2011

Town of Rochester ECC Meeting–February 10, 2011

Present:  Laura Finestone, Chairperson, Ethan Roland (new member), Judith Karpova, Lynn Archer, Henry Bartosik (new member), Lillian Green, John Messerschmidt.

The meeting was begun with introduction of all members.  There are three new members as listed above.

Laura stated that after introductions, we would be discussing the purpose and breadth of our commission.  She stated that as a group, it has been recommended that we limit ourselves to a small number of initiatives (3.)
The main initiative that was discussed was Earth Day — April 22nd.
Supervisor Chipman has asked the ECC to take on the main responsibility of earth day  in conjunction with the Youth Commission.  Many different things were discussed to tie into Earth Day.  John M.  brought up a phrase to be used for this project — “Earth Day – Every Day”.
Lynn A. added Town of Rochester before the phrase.  We will think about this and discuss it at the next meeting.

A discussion was held regarding the goals and values of the ECC.
Some of the important goals and values are as follows:  Get on the map; develop a sense of place and regional connections.

The functions of the ECC were stated to be environmental projects and education and awareness for the community.  Climate adaptations, the rail trail, and the Earth Day project were also discussed.  Other discussion included signage of the watershed areas, social media presence and finally installing the bike rack purchased last year.  Laura also brought up a project that might be a possibility on the road that goes into the Youth Center.  That road has been closed due to the owners request.  Laura would like to do a small planting or seating area on the end of that road.  It will have to be looked into.  The next meeting will be Thursday, March 10th.

The meeting was ended and 8:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,  Lillian Green
