We Are One Community Day – April 23

We Are One Community Day
April 23rd
2 p.m. at Town Hall, Accord, NY
(Rain date April 30th)

I have proclaimed April 23rd to be our Town of Rochester One Community Day in response to the hateful attacks against free speech in our Town. During the past year, we have had numerous incidents throughout our Town that trampled on the 1st Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech of some of our neighbors. This has occurred across the political spectrum. We’ve had Trump signs destroyed and stolen and the property where they were placed damaged. We’ve had the same thing happen to Hillary signs. Black Lives Matter signs have stolen, Peace signs destroyed, and nails thrown in driveways. This is not indicative of who we are or what we are as a Town or a Community. It is the hateful work of a few intolerant people.
Regardless of where you stand in the political spectrum, we must stand together against hate and intolerance of the opinions of others. An attack against one of us is an attack against all of us. I’m asking everyone to come out and show your support for you and your neighbors to share whatever point of view you or they may care to espouse. Bring your own sign. It can be a Trump, Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, Bernie for President, Repeal the Safe Act sign or make your own just asking that we respect the right for our neighbors to express themselves. Please just try to keep the message positive without any negative or hateful aspersions.

Plans are to meet at Town Hall at 50 Scenic Rd. in Accord at 2 p.m. We will then join and walk into Accord and return to Town Hall. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Please join me in solidarity of showing that respect for each other and love for our community is far greater than the message of a few hateful acts.
