The Superintendent of Highways is an elected position and is headquartered in the Town Garage at the Town Hall. Jeff Frey and his employees are responsible for the maintenance of 111 miles of highways in the town (second largest in the county), Additional responsibilities include roadside vegetation control, roadside litter pick-up, drainage repairs and improvements, and bridge maintenance, as well as the maintenance of more than a million dollars worth of road equipment.
Excess materials: Occasionally, the Highway Department has materials which are excess to the job they are undertaking. These include wood chips, wood, road sweepings, blacktop, concrete, gravel and dirt. If you are interested in obtaining any of these, the Highway Department maintains a listing of interested individuals. Preference is given to residents near the area where the Department is carrying out their operations.
