News – Abrasive Screened Sand Bid

ABRASIVE SCREENED SAND BID:

The Town of Rochester Town Board is seeking sealed bids for abrasive screened sand for winter

road use. Bids are due on or before Wednesday May 31, 2023 at 11:00am at the office of the

Town Clerk, PO Box 65 / 50 Scenic Road, Accord, New York 12404 where they will be opened

and read aloud. A non-collusion form and certified testing results shall be included as a part of

the bid package. The Town Board has the right to reject any and all bids.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR BID:

1. The sand shall be hard with 100% passing 3/8″ screen, not more than 15% passing #50 mesh
and not more than 4% passing #200 mesh and must be readily usable in spreading equipment.

2. Certified testing results shall be submitted as a part of the bid package.

3. Bid prices shall be priced per ton; variations will not be accepted.

4. The bidder’s attention is called to the fact that if scales are not available at plant site, the bidder must state conversion factor-weight per cubic yard on bid conversion sheet.

5. Sand is to be made available for pickup by trucks designated by Town of Rochester authorized entities and operated by authorized personnel.

6. Bids shall be guaranteed valid for a period of 2 years from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2025.

Kingston, NY – Celebrate National Bike Month by getting your bike ready to ride! Bike Friendly Kingston and the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County will be hosting a free bicycle repair clinic on Saturday, May 13th. Come to the Y parking lot on Pine Grove Avenue in Kingston between 1pm and 4pm to have your bike checked over.

What else do you need to bike? A bell is required by New York State law, and if you ride after dark, you need a set of front and rear lights. If you’re under 14 years of age, a helmet is required while riding! You can get bells, lights and bike helmets at the clinic.

No advance registration required. The event is free, but donations are welcome! Be sure to bring your bike.

Call for Climate Smart Task Force Applicants!

The town board is seeking applicants for our Climate Smart Task Force.
The Task Force will provide the town board with recommendations and plans about implementing and establishing Climate Smart initiatives, funding sources for projects, and will manage climate related projects. The Climate Smart Task Force is also tasked with engaging the community for input, education and the sharing of ideas.

Ideal applicants are from a diverse pool of experiences and have a passion for community driven solutions for addressing the impacts of climate change on the economy, human health, and the environment.

Plastic Bag Recycling Drop Off Event 5/6/23

The Town of Rochester ECC is sponsoring plastic bag recycling events the first Saturday of each month for Town of Rochester transfer station permit holders.

Our next event is this Saturday, 5/6/23 from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm.
To participate in the program:
-Accepted pliable plastics (plastic bags) must only be dropped off during the event hours
-All plastics must be inspected & accepted by a volunteer
-This event is open to permitted users of the Town of Rochester Transfer Station

What can be recycled? Only clean, dry:
Bread bags
Produce bags
Newspaper sleeves
Pallet wrap & stretch film
Salt & Ice bags
Grocery bags
Cereal bags
Case overwrap
Bubble wrap
Wood pellet bags
Plastic shipping envelopes
Dry cleaning bags
Ziploc & other reclosable food storage bags

This opportunity is made possible through the Bags to Benches program through NexTrex. Once we collect 500 lbs of qualifying plastics, the town will earn a bench made from recycled plastics.
