Dan Getman written letter to the Board:
I had spoken with Mike to request a “no parking” delineation from the Deep Hole swimming area to the end of my property (Spirit Circle, LLC lands) going upstream, with the exception of two spots for handicapped parking alongside the new entry way into Deep Hole. As you all know, I’ve put in a parking lot on the opposite side of Towpath to make the parking safer, hopefully to reduce trash, and to enable us to figure out what the appropriate population limits would be to keep the area safe and peaceful. The parking lot also reduces the fire risk, as we hope people will be less inclined to bring charcoal and gas grills etc. Although we’ve not yet experienced high season traffic, the roadside boulders do now appear to be working. As folks initially pushed some aside to create their own parking, we’ve moved bigger ones in their place, and it seems to be working well for the moment.
Mike initiated the “no parking” designation process with you last month and he indicated to me that there is some concern expressed by some about creating two designated handicapped spots along the road as a carve out to the no parking designation. That has led to further thinking by me about how we can accommodate some accessibility for persons with age and mobility disabilities alongside the needs of the fire department and alongside the need to keep people from pushing the rocks away and parking alongside the road.
Unfortunately, I cannot be at the board meeting on the 29th (due to an unexpected extension of a training program I attend in Canada each month to be on that day). So, I apologize for not being present though I will ask other members of our oversight group to attend. I’d also like to have further discussions with the fire department to see whether we can make a place for better accessibility, and we will likely not have a chance to fully discuss this prior to the 29th meeting. Therefore, I request that a final decision be postponed until the next board meeting after the 29th, so that the greatest number of competing concerns can be reconciled and submitted and considered by you. Thank you for considering this and working together on these wonderful and somewhat perplexing challenges!
