Absent: Sandy Chipman.
The meeting started at 9:40 am.
Chair Deb Martin presented the Agenda of the meeting and called the meeting to order after establishing that we have a quorum (5, then 6 out of 7 members present).
The minutes of the April 19, 2023 meeting were reviewed; Marge Bogert made a motion to approve the minutes, Deb Martin seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
Ashley Sweeney presented her (written) DIRECTOR’S REPORT; among the highlights:
• Spring Fling Luncheon — is this Friday, May 19th at the Community Center, 11 am — 1 pm. Approximately 80 people signed up for the event, we are very excited! It’s going to be a light lunch, with salads, sandwiches, home-made sweets… Helpers to please arrive around 9-9:30 am.
• Memorial Day — Who is planning to be on our float? Manuela, Marge are coming for sure.
Line up at the Town Hall at 12:30 pm and step off will be at 1 pm.
The parade will travel down Berme Road to Scenic, down Scenic Rd. to Main Street and Main Street to the Community Center and then will end at the Accord Firehouse where they will have a ceremony and refreshments.
Information regarding the Veterans Park Ceremony was not available until after the meeting (obtained by Manuela from the Town Supervisor; it will be at 12 noon, before the line up for the parade).
• Piano repair update — given by Bethany; Marge Bogert is thanked for her generous donation of $275 covering the cost of the repair; the piano sounds beautifully now…
• Griddle donation — thank you to Sandy Chipman for donating a griddle to the Community Center; it will get a lot of use here.
CHAIR PRESENTATION — CURRENT NEWS/UPDATES
• Sing-Along — discussed; maybe in July, when the After-School program ends? After exercise classes? Get a list of songs and song books (15-20 songs for a 45 minutes event).
NEW BUSINESS — UPCOMING EVENTS (from the Director’s Report)
• After-School Program — will end on Friday, June 16th this year. Hoping to have the last day at the Town Park and celebrate with a “luau” (Hawaiian) theme; Ashley may not be able to be there the whole time (approx. 2:30 to 5:30 pm). If anyone would like to help out that would be great.
• Summer Program — the staff has been chosen; Recreation Dept. currently working on booking a CPR class and planning a staff training day. Most trips have been booked. Program begins on July 10th and we’re very excited.
— OPEN ISSUES / DISCUSSIONS — was the last point on the agenda:
• Memorial Day — Manuela asked about the traditional ceremony at the Veterans Park; no news yet from the Town Board/Supervisor; she would find out and email members about the time of that ceremony.
• Exercise classes — Pam thanked Ashley for her help in clearly improving the situation with the visiting group (which was not respecting the hours/our rules before).
• Casual “craft” hour — Mondays 11 am — 12 noon (added to “Embroidery” class); or needlework? (as Jessica suggested)
• Heritage Day “Art Show” — at the Community Center; a children’s art show will bring many children; painting at the Community Center?
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 am.
Cindy Lampman made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Marge Bogert and approved unanimously.
Next meeting takes place on June 21st, 2023, 9:30 am, at the Community Center.
