Town of Rochester, NY Seeks Applicants for Planning Board Membership

Town of Rochester, NY – October 1, 2024 – The Town of Rochester is now accepting applications for volunteer positions on the Town Planning Board. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the future development of our community. We encourage those with a passion for civic engagement, planning, environmental stewardship, and community development to apply.

The Planning Board is an administrative body that is responsible for reviewing and approving site plans, subdivision applications, and other development proposals in accordance with the Town’s comprehensive plan and zoning laws. The Planning Board is also asked to issue advisory comments on zoning legislation proposals and other matters before the Town Board.
The Board is a seven-member board. There are currently two vacancies on the board and one vacancy in the alternate position.

Qualifications
• Applicants must be eligible electors of the Town of Rochester, NY.
• Experience or knowledge in planning, architecture, environmental science, law, engineering, or related fields is beneficial but not required.
• A commitment to community service and a willingness to review, discuss, and make decisions on planning matters that impact the future of Rochester.
• Must be able to attend regular Planning Board meetings, which are held the second Monday of each month. Occasionally there are workshop meetings held on the third Monday of each month. Four hours of training are required annually.

Application Process
The application is rolling. The Town Board is seeking to fill vacancies as soon as possible. Selected candidates will be contacted for interviews with the Town Board. Please apply by Wednesday, October 9, 2024 to be included in interviews conducted on October 10, 2024.
