2022 HPC Meeting Minutes – May

Town of Rochester Historic Preservation Commission Meeting Monday, May 23, 2022; 2:30 p.m.– 4:00 p.m.; held at the Howard Lipton Community Center in Accord, NY
Attending: Wilton Duckworth (Chair); Deborah Medenbach (Vice Chair), Joan Ewing, Shirley Avery, Alice Cross, Ryan Fitzgerald Absent: Gloria Mirsky, Bea Haugen, Suzanne Miedema, Natalie Schults, Gary Miller, Joanne Mariner Guest: Kate Gundberg
The meeting was called to order with a motion by Wilton Duckworth at 2:35 p.m. Motion carried.
The Agenda was adjusted because Kate Gundberg had to leave the meeting early:

1. Schedule of Activities for HPC and FHR
AG DAY — Farms and Barns Tour – based on Historic Farmstead Survey – Saturday, July 23, 2022; 11:00 to 3:00, Bus Tour 1-3. Bus with sound system for Harry Hansen, tour guide.
FHR Annual Meeting – Friday, September 16, 2022; 7:00 pm Harry Hansen speaking on Barns
Heritage Day – Community Day – Saturday, October 1, 2022; 11:00 to 6:00 Activities — Museum – Alice and Betsy and HPC volunteers; HPC Booth; 4-H Booth – Ryan Fitzgerald; Farrier – Rick Gray; Cornell Cooperative; Blacksmith – Jonathan Nedbor; Goat; RVG Assn; American Farmland Trust; Rondout Esopus Conservancy; Recreation Department; Bees(?);Vendors – Jam, Soap, Syrup, Honey
Food vendors – need own insurance and permits
Registration, sign-ups – Kate
Preservation Award Presentation – Renovation, restoration; challenges and successes
2. The Minutes were approved as corrected (Ayers, not Heirs) with motion made ty Alice Cross, seconded by Joan Ewing.
3. The Agenda was approved with motion made by Ryan Fitzgerald, seconded by Shirley Avery.
4. Historic Buildings on the Market – none that are on the Historic Inventory. Joanne Mariner is going to work with Harry Hansen about adding to the 2008 Historic Survey list.
5. Palentown Schoolhouse – There was a meeting at the Palentown Schoolhouse of Wilton, Joe Shultz, who is a stone mason, Gary Miller, Bill DeGraw, Ryan and Joan. This meeting was to do an initial assessment of the foundation. Next steps are an engineering assessment by Barry Medenbach and then Jeff Frey re the Highway Department possibly correcting the drainage with their excavating equipment. Also, on May 18, Wilton, Bill and Gary presented their findings to the Town Board.
6. Gary Miller needs to apply to join the HPC.
7. The meeting was adjourned by Wilton at 4:00 pm with motion made by Shirley Avery, seconded by Deb Medenbach and passed.
