Youth Commission Minutes – October 2017

MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
October 18, 2017

The meeting started at 9:55 am.

Present: Sandy Chipman, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking, Recreation/Youth Dept. Director Carol Dennin (her last meeting before retirement) and Assistant Recreation Director Bethany Alongi Dennin.
Absent: Jessica Knapp, Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino.

The minutes of the September 27, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Pam Stocking made a motion to approve the minutes, Sandy Chipman seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Carol Dennin presented her last written Director’s Report and thanked all for the wonderful memories; among the highlights:

• A road-worthy bus was acquired! Inspected inside and out, with new tires, all controls and brakes in working order, no rusty frame (help from Highway Dept./Jeffrey Frey — thanks!)

• Planning to do a few community trips again (possible trips to Times Union Center in Albany this winter, December trip to “Disney on Ice” featuring Disney’s Frozen and Monster Jam, with The Monster Truck Show; price would be about $20 with group discount).

• Basketball Program begins October 23rd for the clinic; registrations continue. The Michael Oremus Foundation sponsored 5 children in this program.

• After School program — almost $2,000 brought it in September! A donation of $275 was received from the Town of Rochester Democrats and Kevin Cahill and it’s used to scholarship kids in this program.

• Heritage Day — in cooperation with Friends of Historic Rochester, on September 30, 2017 at the Accord Firehouse — which included the Pie Contest and the Talent Show, was very successful.
Special thanks to Carl Chipman (MC), Sandy Chipman and Mike Baden for their help.
