YOUTH COMMISSION NON-QUORUM MEETING / DISCUSSION

October 21, 2015

The meeting started at 9:40 am.

 

Present: Sandy Chipman, Manuela Michailescu, Recreation/Youth Dept. Director Carol Dennin, Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino.

Absent: Jessica Knapp, Sue Matson and Pam Stocking. NO Quorum.

 

The minutes of the September 23, 2015 meeting were reviewed; the name of Rev. Alison Quinn from the Christ the King Church to be added, as she obtained extremely helpful grants for our summer program. Minutes to be approved the first time we have a quorum meeting.

 

Carol Dennin presented the Director’s report. Among the highlights:

 

— The Halloween “Haunted Hayride” was filling up; 4H members, community volunteers, Youth Board members and after school staff assisting for this event, expected to be a lot of fun.

 

— Halloween Party for kids – Friday, October 30, 5 pm – 6:30 pm, with DJ, games, refreshments and more…

 

— Basketball sign-ups under way and continue for another week (at that time there were 23 children for the 7-8 yr. Clinic; and 85 in the older division); the application form was revised and clarified.

 

— Help is needed for the Thanksgiving luncheon (to donate time, food, or cook a turkey – please call the office).

Needed: a clean-up crew, a delivery person and 1-2 people for kitchen help and set up…

 

FUTURE EVENTS:

 

• Thanksgiving Luncheon – November 26, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
• Tree Lighting – probably on December 4
• Holiday Party – probably on December 12

A vote is needed for the “Mary Lee Friend of Youth” and “Sue Matson Distinguished Youth” Awards (to be presented at that time).

At the end of the September meeting Rita Harkins proposed that the “Mary Lee Friend of Youth Award” is given this year to MaryAnne Gates, summer program director for the last 15 years…

 

The discussion-meeting adjourned around 10:20 am.

 

Next meeting is Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
