MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
May 23, 2018

The meeting started at 9:45 am.
Present: Sandy Chipman, Jessica Knapp, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking, Recreation/Youth Dept. Director Ashley Sweeney and Assistant to the Recreation Director Bethany Alongi-Dennin.

The minutes of the April 18, 2018 meeting were reviewed. Pam Stocking made a motion to approve the minutes, Sandy Chipman seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Ashley Sweeney presented her (written) Director’s Report; among the highlights:
• Earth Day clean-up
April 14, 2018: 2,880 lbs of C&D collected; 95 tires
April 21, 2018: 2,400 lbs of C&D collected; 90 tires
Totals: 5.280 lbs of C&D; 185 tires! (more tires and less lbs. compared to the past).
Thanks to Councilman Chris Hewitt for making fliers for the event and coming to make pizzas for the celebration afterwards. Also, a huge thank you to the ECC for their involvement (they helped tremendously with getting the word out to the public).
Lots of youth were helping in the clean up. One group had about 7 teenage boys from the high school (love to see local youth getting involved!)
• Mother’s Day “Wear a Hat” brunch — on May 11, 2018
65+ people in attendance.
Fashion Show created by Lolly Chase was fabulous! Next year someone designated to run the music during the show would be needed (Commission members mentioned they didn’t hear Lolly and/or didn’t know when the show started).
Thanks to Jessica Knapp for making lovely flower pins (broches) for all the moms in attendance; they added a nice touch to the event.
