MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
May 17, 2017

The meeting started at 9:45 am.

Present: Sandy Chipman, Jessica Knapp (late 20 min.), Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking, Youth/Recreation Director Carol Dennin, Recreation Aides Rita Harkins and Ashley Sweeney.
Absent: Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino.

The minutes of the April 12, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Pam Stocking made a motion to approve the minutes, Sandy Chipman seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Carol Dennin presented the Director’s Report; among the highlights:

• Easter Egg Hunt was on Saturday, April 15, at the Town Hall; about 100 children participated

• Earth Day was on two weekends, April 15 and April 22.
The Environmental Conservation Commission (ECC) organized a very successful Earth Day Celebration and pizza party with live music at the Community Center on Sunday, April 30; the program started with the energy efficiency program “Solarize Hudson Valley.”

• Mother’s Day “Wear a Hat” brunch on May 12 was attended by about 65 people; the “Fashion Show” (dresses and hats created by Lolly Chase) was a wonderful, special, fun addition! Thanks to all “models” participating in the show (including Youth/Recreation Dept. and Youth Commission members, Town Supervisor, Town Clerk, etc.)

• Memorial Day — Jessica Knapp is doing the Fallen Soldier’s Table moment; the Youth Dept. wagon will be in the parade if anyone would like to climb aboard (12:30 pm line-up at the Town Hall)

• Yard Sale — anyone with items to donate can bring them in; donations are used to scholarship youth for the summer program. The sale starts June 5, ends June 9.

COMING EVENTS

• After School program at the Youth Center ends on June 9; celebration all afternoon!

• Drivers’ Safety program offered on June 12 at the Community Center (10 am — 4 pm); $25 for AARP members, $35 for non-members

The meeting adjourned around 10:40 am.

Next meeting takes place on June 21, 2017, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
