Youth Commission Minutes May 2015

MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
May 21, 2015

The meeting started at 9:40 am.

Present: Sandy Chipman, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking – acting as
Chair, Recreation/Youth Dept. Director Carol Dennin, Assistant
Director Shaye Davis and Town Board liaison Cindy Fornino. Late:
Jessica Knapp (9:50 am).
Absent: Sue Matson.

The minutes of the April 23, 2015 meeting were reviewed. Sandy Chipman
made a motion to approve the minutes and Manuela Michailescu seconded
the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Carol Dennin presented the Director’s report.
Among the highlights:
— the Summer Program registration numbers are up (to 45 kids per
week); only 6 spots are still available for week 7
— Dyani Fitzpatrick was hired for the Summer Program, she is a good
addition (works with 4H too)
— the Yard Sale to benefit Summer Program sponsorships is taking
place June 8-13 (Monday through Saturday, with Seniors to run it on
Saturday, an extra day)
— the Eating Healthy program is going very well, especially the
fusion juices
— June 12 is the last day of the After School program

FUTURE EVENTS:

• Memorial Day Parade and the “Fallen Soldier’s Table” moment at the
Veterans Park – May 25
— discussion regarding preparations for the Fallen Soldier’s moment
(to be presented by Jessica Knapp); power source needed for the
wireless mike

• The Community Center would be this year the “Haunted Barn” (old barn
has roof problems, but the foundation started to go too, it’s not safe)

The meeting adjourned around 10:20 am.

Next meeting, originally scheduled for June 25, was cancelled because
of necessary (floor) preparations for the Summer Program at the
Community Center and rescheduled for August 12 at 9:30 am at the
Community Center.
