MINUTES

YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING

March 26, 2015

 

The meeting started at 9:40 am.

 

Present: Sandy Chipman, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking – acting as Chair, Recreation/Youth Dept. Assistant Director Rita Harkins and Town Board liaison Cindy Fornino. Late: Jessica Knapp.

Absent: Sue Matson.

 

The minutes of the February 26, 2015 meeting were reviewed. Sandy Chipman made a motion to approve the minutes and Manuela Michailescu seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

 

Rita Harkins presented the Assistant Director’s report.

 

Among the highlights:

— the NEW BUS is already in the parking lot at the Town Hall, Commission members were shown photos.

Capacity is 75 (larger than previous); bus is different from the one we expected to get, but in better condition and cheaper; thanks to Rich Miller, the Town Board and everyone who supported this long awaited acquisition; the old bus can be sold.

— St. Patrick’s lunch – attended by about 75+ people; donations are about $130 total from jewelry sales and cash donations

— After school program – consistent 40 kids attending

— Summer Program registrations – 41 children already signed up as of that day; Director MaryAnne Gates would interview 2 assistant directors/counselors (to replace Elaine Samuels); activity calendar to be completed by the April meeting

— “Playground Project” – the two events promoted by Tricia Reed (Rock the Rink and the Misfits, both at Skate Time) produced a total of $1,575 ($800 first night + $775 the second night)

— “Crafty Ladies” made fleece blankets to donate to the Youth Center

— The RV Honor Society (Bonnie Markle) offered to help (possibly with our garden and/or After School face painting)

— Help needed for: Easter goody bags (done that day), Easter Egg Hunt, Mother’s Day brunch.

 

— APRIL Events:

  • April 4 – Easter Egg Hunt, the Saturday before Easter; 120 kids expected – Youth Commission members offered – as a continuation of the meeting – hands-on help in getting ready the Easter goody bags for the children • Saturday, April 25, 2 pm – Earth Day celebration event at the Community/Recreation Center – organized together with ECC, presenting speakers and activities

 

— MAY Events

  • Mother’s Day Brunch – May 8; get your hats out!
  • Memorial Day Parade and the “Fallen Soldier’s Table” moment at the Veterans Park – May 25

 

 

The meeting adjourned around 10:30 am.

Next meeting: April 23, 2015, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
