MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
June 21, 2017
The meeting started at 9:45 am.
Present: Sandy Chipman, Jessica Knapp, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking, Youth/Recreation Aides Rita Harkins and Ashley Sweeney.
Absent: Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino (medical reasons, daughter sick).
The minutes of the May 17, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Pam Stocking made a motion to approve the minutes, Sandy Chipman seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
Rita Harkins and Ashley Sweeney presented the (written) Director’s Report; among the highlights:
• Update regarding the Memorial Day — because of the rain, the parade was cancelled, but this was not known by most people; better communication is needed regarding the change of plans/location. Ceremony took place at the Town Hall, where Jessica Knapp did the Fallen Soldier’s Table moment; a photo from the Town Hall ceremony (in the rain, when Hank Bartosik was performing the Taps) was later on published on the cover of Blue Stone Press.
• Driver’s safety class was well attended; a lot was stressed about dangers of texting and driving…
• CPR class to be offered to Town employees on June 26 at 10 am
• SUMMER PROGRAM
— Yard sale was successful
— we have 3 junior counselors for 3 weeks, on Mondays and Fridays
• Planning the “Pie Festival and Talent Show” — on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Fire House (organized in cooperation with Historic Preservation Commission); it starts at 10 am (Pam and Jessica would be there at 9 am); Talent Show (by age groups) at 11 am, Pie Contest at 12 noon (adults and kids). Ellenville Library would probably have a table/booth.
• Discussion about the security at the Community Center — surveillance cameras are needed (glass was broken after the Sunday Democratic Caucus, not known who did it); front door to be fixed…
• Accord Speedway — kids go for free, autographs are offered by drivers… Sign up started for this July 28 event.
• Potential bus trips with Marbletown proposed by Jessica — to be explored…
The meeting adjourned around 10:55 am.
Next meeting takes place after the Summer program ends, on August 30, 2017, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
