Youth Commission Minutes June 2014

MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
June 26, 2014

The meeting started at 9:45 am.
Present: Pam Stocking (acting as Chair), Sandy Chipman, Manuela
Michailescu, and Recreation/Youth Department Director Carol Dennin.
Absent: Jessica Knapp, Sue Matson.

After establishing that there is a quorum for the meeting, the minutes
of the May 22, 2014 meeting were reviewed. Sandy Chipman made a motion
to approve the minutes and Manuela Michailescu seconded the motion,
which was approved unanimously.

Director Carol Dennin presented highlights of her report:

— Changes regarding the Youth Department’s team: Angie Hasbrouck
works now in the Assessor’s office and Rita Harkins comes back on her
regular schedule only in August.

— Only $400 have been raised at the Yard Sale (to be used as
sponsorship for four kids/four weeks in the summer program)

— The movie night was cancelled (as nobody showed up)

— 30 people participated to the AARP driving classes (and they loved
the instructor!)

— June 13 – a very successful end of season celebration for the after-
school program took place

— SUMMER PROGRAM – so far 62 kids were registered, most full time; 14
kids are 5-6 years old; about 8-10 kids are on the waiting list

— Bus for the summer program – no news yet (and the summer program
starts on July 7!). Our bus capacity is 38.
The Town Board allocated only $2,500 to be spent on another bus.

— 30 people registered for Museum trips to New York City (they are
residents participating to Community Trips, not kids; see the
Department’s newsletter)

Then the participation to the 4th of JULY Parade in Ellenville was
discussed – line-up is at 10-11:30 am, parade starts at 12 noon.
[Note: it rained on July 4th but the parade was on; participants from
our town were Supervisor Carl Chipman and Youth Commission member
Manuela Michailescu who joined Rich Miller in his car, on which the
banner and decorations were displayed].
The meeting adjourned around 10:35 am.

Next meeting: originally scheduled for August 28, 2014 (just few days
after the end of the summer program and being the week before Labor
Day, most people took vacation), then rescheduled for Thursday,
September 25, 2014, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
