Youth Commission Minutes Jun. 2016

NOTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
June 15, 2016

The meeting started at 9:55 am.

Present: Manuela Michailescu and Pam Stocking, Recreation/Youth Dept. Director Carol Dennin.
Absent: Jessica Knapp, Sandy Chipman, Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino.

Carol Dennin presented the Director’s Report; among the highlights:

• All members of the Summer Program staff attended a very useful 6-hour training course at Ellenville Middle School on June 11; the course included interactive games to encourage children to establish new friendships and social skills.

• The Youth Department is thinking about joining forces with the Historical Preservation Commission and doing a talent show, hayrides, pie contest, hot dogs and pumpkin carving on Heritage Day/Fall Festival, Saturday, October 1 at the Friends of Historic Rochester Museum (a more homey, smaller scale event). Richard Travers said that the Rondout Growers Association will still financially back the talent show and hopefully pie contestants (as it seems that the Jennie Bell Pie Festival has come to an end). Any suggestions or offers to help are very welcome.

Discussing the latest Memorial Day ceremony — considered the best so far — Manuela Michailescu mentioned that she brought to Town Supervisor Carl Chipman’s attention the fact that the flagpole from the Veterans Park is bent and would need to be replaced.

The meeting adjourned around 10:25 am.

The next meeting is on August 24, 2016, 9:30 am at the Community Center (the week when the summer program ends).
