Youth Commission Minutes – April. 2017

MINUTES
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
April 12, 2017

The meeting started at 9:40 am.

Present: Sandy Chipman, Jessica Knapp, Manuela Michailescu, Pam Stocking, Youth/Recreation Director Carol Dennin, Recreation Aide Ashley Sweeney.
Absent: Town Board Liaison Cindy Fornino.

The minutes of the March 22, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Sandy Chipman made a motion to approve the minutes, Manuela Michailescu seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.

Carol Dennin presented the Director’s Report; among the highlights:

• Summer Program is FULL, with a waiting list.

• Summer program schedule is ready, available in the Youth Dept. office; summer staff meetings are beginning on Thursday, April 13, 2017.

• Earth Day will be two weekends, April 15 and April 22. The sign up for Earth Day is more than in previous years.
The Environmental Conservation Commission (ECC) will be doing an Earth Day Celebration/pizza party with live music at the Community Center on Sunday, April 30, 3:30 pm; the program starts with an energy efficiency program (Solarize Hudson Valley).

• After School program — all is quiet, a staff person sits at the desk (as there is no access inside the Center for parents) and the bell system appears to be working well. The Constables remained at the Center for 3 weeks, assisting the Department with implementing the new process.

• Easter Egg Hunt is on Saturday, April 15, starting at 12 at the Town Hall; director Carol Dennin expressed thanks to Youth Commission members for their “hands-on” assistance with the candy bags for this event — members’ help is very much appreciated!

COMING EVENTS

• Mother’s Day “Wear a Hat” brunch on May 12, 10:30 am—12:00, with a “Fashion Show” (dresses created by Lolly Chase); all are welcome… (reservations by May 5).

The meeting adjourned around 10:25 am.

Next meeting takes place on May 17, 2017, 9:30 am at the Community Center.
