ECC Meeting Minutes – December 2017

ECC 12-14-17

New members: need for diversity and expertise. We want a full team next year as we have had – 9 people.
Brainstorm: Ask Mike to do a public announcement soliciting board members with specific qualifications

Possible sources:
• Professionals in the environmental sector – suggestions
DEC member
• Science background
• Code enforcement
• Water quality
• Grant writing
• Farmers
• NYFOA
• Rochester Rod & Gun Club

Idea: perhaps we should create our goals and then find people.
Should we have a bulleted list to put out?

Acknowledgement of Chris’s history and contribution to the ECC. Chris was on the ECC with Max Finestone; that ECC did the NH Inventory, he took over as Chair and reupped in th e past few years. He and Laura put on the first farmers market and Chris, among other things, had the events that we did be community affairs, bringing together various groups in Rochester for pizza and educational events. He managed the Solarize initiative to great success.

January meeting – what are our main priorities for the year?

2017 What were our accomplishments:
Relationship with Riverkeeper
Solarize sponsorship
Earth Day
NH plan

Pending:
Where to install solar panels: Sand Mine or the Transfer Station will now go to a referendum, since the town neglected to offer public comment. Town will decide on a date (Jan 30th, Firehouse in Accord, 12 to 9 pm). Town can get as much as $38,000 per year for mining sand. Problem at Transfer Station is a sensitive cap over the landfill, disturb the membrane, the contractor wants to move it up the hill where it’s behind Friends and Family. Fear of heavy metals leeching from solar panels into the ground. And other fears. Town Board needs to put out a fact sheet.

EMC report

When our NH plan will be finalized, will need final edit; Laura will edit.

Next meeting: workshop meeting on naming creeks: pull in people and information about the creeks. Already in code: 100 ft buffer on each side of named creeks.
Evan Pritchard also knows local names.
