Meeting notes
Updates:
● T. of Wawarsing planning on September 30 th event to celebrate the completion of the NHP plan.
Request for ECC funds to support the event.
● Training for the datasets produced by the Natural Heritage Plan in late August or early
September. May consider joint training with Wawarsing. Group agreed not to host on fourth
Wednesday in August. Kristin to be in touch with John Mickelson and send around dates.
Climate Smart Communities
● Judith’s participation in Code training counted for Town Clean Energy Community credit.
● Judith plans to have building energy assessment done by Sept meeting. Tim wants to help Judith
with the energy assessment.
● Tim has an interest helping the town develop a composting facility (could be at the landfill)
● Judith will provide a presentation on the Climate Smart Communities program and the portal at
the September meeting. She’ll also send around a link to the Manual.
Natural Heritage Plan
● Need to consider partnering with the Rondout Creek Watershed Alliance
● The Rondout Watershed Alliance is helping all ECCs on the Rondout to work together.
o Sara and John represent the Rochester ECC
o Looking for simple project that will take a year to accomplish.
o Trees for Tribs planting may be in the next year a priority for this group.
o Laura F. also in the Rondout Alliance
o Riverkeeper is requesting money from ECCs to make a brochure about the Rondout
($3000 total)
o John – will send us a prototype, may also pitch a request to County EMC (last Wed of
each month)
● John interested in a tire pull on the Rondout – plan to organize around the spring River Sweep
(May)
o Need food in our spring clean up event!
● Our ECC Outreach could include public speakers in the future to support the concepts in the
NHP. We can use these events to ask for help with our work going forward. Consider speakers.
Definitely consider food!
● Decision on September 30 th – TOR ECC will suggest the event be potluck. Consensus is that ECC
shouldn’t be funding food for this event since it will not be public outreach.
