Highway Dept. News

The snow plow season is quickly coming upon us!

As a reminder, in order for a mailbox to survive snow removal operations, it must be properly situated, constructed and maintained. Click here for the USPS regulations https://www.usps.com/manage/mailboxes.htm. Mailbox access is also the responsibility of the owner to maintain. Check your mailbox and post annually for proper height and sturdiness. If you can wiggle the mailbox or post, it most likely will not survive many more snowstorms. You may also contact my office with any questions or concerns.

We also would like to remind residents that it is unlawful to plow/move snow across any public road. If snow is placed in the roadway the individual doing so becomes legally liable. Snow left on the roadways may create a hazard and cause damage to a vehicle. In addition, we would also like to remind our residents not to leave garbage bins too close to the roadway or park on the roadways during snow events. It is very difficult to navigate around such obstacles. Vehicles that are parked and unattended may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Although we do our very best to maintain the roadways during inclement weather, please use extreme caution while navigating the roads.
