Soil & Water Conservation District holding Tree and Shrub Sale

The Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District is conducting its annual bare-root seedling sale. Landowners can beautify and protect their property with a variety of inexpensive conservation trees, shrubs, wildflower seeds, ferns, ground covers and wildlife nesting boxes for bluebirds, butterflies, bats, hawks, and wood ducks.  Orders are now being taken.  The sale program offers twenty-five varieties of trees and shrubs, five varieties of ground covers, and an assortment of wildflower seeds to suit any condition—sunny or shady.  The sale also includes fertilizer tablets and rain gauges.
Seedlings range in sizes of six to twenty-four inches, and are being sold in quantities of 10 for $10-$11, 25 for $22-$26, 50 for $40-$48, and 100 for $70-$85.  Price depends on the species.  Many of the species are ideal for erosion control and many are attractive uses for wildlife food and cover, windscreens, shade, and privacy.
Orders are now being taken and can be picked up during the fourth week of April at two locations:  the Ulster County Fairgrounds on Libertyville Road in New Paltz, Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24; and at the Ulster County Highway Garage off Hurley Avenue (Shamrock Lane) in Kingston, Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26.  The deadline for ordering is March 28th.  Order early to ensure availability.  Any excess stock available can be purchased on the pick-up days on a “first come-first served” basis.  Call the Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District for an order form, telephone: 883-7162 ext. 102, or stop by the office located at the 5 Park Lane, in Highland, open weekdays from 8AM to 4:30PM.  You can also download an order form from their website at http://www.ucswcd.org/ and go to Programs, select Soil and Water Conservation District Programs and click on Tree and Shrub Sale.
